Assistant Professor, Physician Assistant Department

 Job Summary: Daemen College is searching for a physician assistant to join its team of dedicated and talented PA educators with 100+ years of combined teaching experience. This is a twelve month, tenure-track position to start January 2020.

With its main campus located in Amherst NY, the College offers both undergraduate liberal arts degrees along with accredited graduate programs in the health professions (e.g. PA, AT, MPH, DPT, DNP, MSW, ABA). The PA Program recently graduated its 22nd class and has alumni of almost 900 practicing physician assistants.

Working along with the program's leadership team, the ideal candidate will facilitate and oversee systematic and continuous assessment of the clinical curriculum as required to demonstrate compliance with the ARC-PA accreditation standards.  Primary teaching responsibilities will include, at a minimum, lecturing in areas of medical expertise, clinical skills instruction, and evaluating the readiness of clinical year students for entry to the profession.

Scholarship, professional development, continuing medical education, academic advisement, service on program and college-wide committees, and participation in the selection of applicants during the admissions process will be required. Limited clinical practice (maximum of 500 hours per year) as a physician assistant is also required, respected, and supported.

Minimum Requirements

  • Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution in an applicable field of study
  • NCCPA certified physician assistant eligible for licensure as a physician assistant in the State of New York
  • Demonstrated effectiveness as an instructor (e.g. lectures and skills labs) and clinical preceptor for PA students
  • Familiarity with ARC-PA accreditation standards related to the clinical curriculum
  • Understanding of the principles and tools necessary to collect, analyze, and interpret data for the purposes of program assessment
  • Three years of full-time clinical practice experience with demonstrated ability to practice medicine skillfully and with great autonomy as a member of a health care team
  • A wide breadth and depth of general medical knowledge
  • Strong communication (written and verbal), time management, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a collaborative team
  • Honesty, integrity, and commitment to maintaining high professional standards
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information and interface with students, faculty, staff, and community members with tact and clarity

Preferred Qualifications

  • Mastery of computer applications, software programs, and social media platforms
  • A record of peer-reviewed publication in professional journals
  • A record of service to regional, state, or national PA professional organizations
  • Doctorate from a regionally accredited institution in an applicable field of study or current matriculation in a doctoral program (e.g. PhD, EdD, DHSc, DMS)

This is a full-time position. Benefits are available the first of the month following the full-time employee's date of hire and include health, dental, vision insurance, and fully paid life insurance. Eligibility for the 403b retirement plan is available to full-time employees upon hire and an 8%employer match after one year of service.
