Job Description

NorthropGrumman Mission Systems sector is seeking a Manager, Mission Assurance 3 tojoin the Land and Avionics C4ISR Division. This Leader will have theresponsibility for the Quality & Mission Excellence function and theEmerging Solutions & Strategic Initiatives (ESSI) Business Unit and othersite team leadership responsibilities supporting the L&AC4ISR Division atthe Buffalo, NY, Rolling Meadows, IL and Woodland Hills, CA Sites.  The Manager of Mission Assurance will focuson the following areas of responsibility: people leadership, process champion,business partnership, and site team leadership as appropriate. This positionwill be a direct report to L&AC4ISR Mission Assurance Director and willrequire occasional travel to and collaboration with other Mission SystemsSector locations. This Leader could be located out of a number of NGMSLocations such as Rolling Meadows IL, Buffalo NY or Woodland Hills CA basedupon successful candidates' ability and qualifications.


Thesuccessful candidate will possess unwavering ethics and values, strongleadership skills, effective communication skills, and the ability to developand maintain trusting partnerships with internal and externalstakeholders.  He or she will havedemonstrated the ability to lead and develop people, independently advocate forquality, exercise objective judgment, and drive improvements in the quality ofprocesses and products.  He / she willalso have the ability to operate independently based on strategic objectives,work in a team environment, and collaborate across functions and across thesector to accomplish team goals.  Thecandidate will work closely with program directors and managers, leaders fromother functional disciplines, and peer functional leaders from around theMission Systems Sector.


Keyaspects of each major area of responsibility include:


PeopleLeadership: The Mission Assurance Manager will lead a diverse, multifunctionalQuality & Mission Assurance Teams. He or she will be responsible for maintaining an inclusive workenvironment where team members are engaged and have the resources to besuccessful now and in the future. Significant tasks included within the scopeof this responsibility are:


  • Management of team and assignments acrossprograms

  • Fostering an inclusive environment where teammembers are highly engaged

  • Mentoring and career development, includingtraining

  • Implementing a strategy for talent acquisitionand pipeline development


ProcessChampion: The Mission Assurance Manager will be a champion for robust,efficient processes across the product life cycle.  He or she will be responsible for defining,monitoring, and improving processes within the Quality team and the overallsite in accordance with company guidelines and the Quality Managementsystem.  Significant tasks includedwithin the scope of this responsibility are:


  • Objectively monitor process adherencethroughout the site and across the product life cycle in accordance withCommand Media and the Quality Management System

  • Drive meaningful operational efficiencyimprovements via Continuous Improvement projects

  • Apply systematic, data-driven approaches tomonitor and improve the quality of processes & products


BusinessPartnership: The Mission Assurance Manager will be a trusted partner for thebusiness, including program, functional, and external stakeholders.  He or she will leverage requirementsexpertise to provide objective insight that results in compliant, effectivesolutions for the business and the warfighter. Significant tasks includedwithin the scope of this responsibility are:


  • Develop trusting partnerships with program,functional, and external stakeholders

  • Align team goals with business objectives

  • Deliver objective insights and solutions toenable high quality business outcomes

  • Provide strong executive presence andcommunication

  • Maintain constructive and collaborativerelationships with DCMA stakeholders


SiteLeadership: The Mission Assurance Manager will be a member of the LAND DivisionBased Site Leadership team.  He or shewill represent the Quality& Mission Excellence function, while also playinga broad leadership role in site responsibilities including strategic planning,budget planning, business metrics reviews, and talent pipelinedevelopment.  Significant tasks includedwithin the scope of this responsibility are:


  • Actively participate as a member of the siteexecutive leadership team

  • Provide support and guidance to local ERG andvarious site engagement activities

  • Support headcount, expense, and capitalplanning activities

  • Support cross functional employee developmentplanning

  • Coordinate with other functional leads acrossthe site ensuring consistent communication and support is provided for thevarious support functions

  • Represent the site to functional leadershiparound the MS Sector to enable sharing of resources and best practices





  • Bachelor's Degree in an engineering, technical,or related discipline

  • 5 years of leadership experience in a relevantdiscipline like quality, program management, engineering, or manufacturing

  • Demonstrated understanding of the program /product lifecycle including acquisition, development, production, andsustainment

  • Demonstrated understanding of ISO 9001 / AS9100Quality Management System

  • U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain andmaintain a Department of Defense Secret clearance



  • Master's degree in an engineering, technical, or relateddiscipline

  • Lean / Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification

  • Well versed in the principles of Earned Value Management.

  • Experience with data analysis and visualization

  • Current, active Secret Clearance, or higher or ability toacquire a Department of Defense Top Secret clearance.
